My belangstelling by die toerusting vir interkulturele bedieninge spruit uit my eie bedieningservaring.  As Afrikaanssprekende was ek vir 15 jaar in verskillende interkulturele bedieninge betrokke in Malawi en Mosambiek. Ek was vir etlike jare ’n leraar in verskillende multikulturele gemeentes in Lilongwe. Dit was ook my voorreg om by evangelisasie en kerkplanting betrokke te wees in Moslemgemeenskappe in Malawi en onbereikte gemeenskappe in Mosambiek. My eie gebrek aan toepaslike kennis en vaardighede vir interkulturele bedieninge en die leerskool wat ek moes deurgaan, het my oortuig dat ek voltyds betrokke moes raak by die toerusting van gelowiges en gemeentes vir interkulturele bedieninge.

Ryk van Velden and Connect at Hugenote Kollege

Part of my job description at Hugenote Kollege is to equip Christians, congregations and Christian organisations for service and witness in multicultural contexts. This forms a part of the intercultural training programs of Connect at Hugenote Kollege. Connect wants to enhance the intercultural ministries in and through congregations and conducts a wide variety of short courses and training programs for individuals and congregations.

My interest in the training for intercultural ministry is the result of my own ministry experience. As somebody who speaks Afrikaans, I was for 15 years involved in various intercultural ministries in Malawi and Mozambique. I served as a pastor in different multicultural congregations in Lilongwe. It was also privileged to be involved in evangelism and church planting project among Muslims in Malawi and unreached groups in Mozambique. My own lack of knowledge and skills for intercultural ministry and the journey to be empowered for intercultural ministry, convinced me to get full time involved in the training of Christians and congregations for intercultural ministries.

The purpose of the blog

The aim of this blog is to stimulate reflection and discussion about the intercultural ministries in and through congregations.  The blog wishes to address matters which intercultural workers encounter in the course of their ministries and at the same time create a space for them to contribute their insights and learn from others.

 Language

The blog will be in Afrikaans and English. Any content will be posted in Afrikaans or English, but not in both. Participants can use the language of their choice
